Which Linux distro do you like?

Hello,

I'm using Mandriva One 2008 Spring. But I don't know if that's a good choice. So can you tell me about your favourite distribution(s) and of course why do you like it?

Thank you!

Cập nhật:

Thanks 16k-zx81 and random_guy7531 for your "speedy" answers ;)

Can you tell me why do you hate Gnome?

I've read a comparison between KDE and Gnome here: http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/kdegnome and Gnome seems to be not bad.

I'm still trying to discover these 2 graphics interfaces, and I like both of them (maybe because I'm a novice Linux user). Both KDE and Gnome are installed on my Mandriva, so I can switch between them, that's a good thing!

Kubuntu and OpenSUSE are better than Mandriva or not?

Cập nhật 2:

@random_guy7531: what do you mean by "user experience very similar to windows"?

Cập nhật 3:

@l d: Yes, I didn't ask about the best distro (because, me too, I think that the best distro is which one that works like we want). I've just asked about your favourite distro :P

I really like and agree with you: "Use your head, not your ears". Thank you!

Gnome and KDE are desktops, not distros. I can install both and many others on Ubuntu (which I happen to use).

The best distro is the one you get installed, configured, and working for you. If everything is working, wireless, video, sound, package manager, that is the best distro for you at this time! Use it, learn to use it better, and eventually when you learn a bit more, you will be in a position to decide if you want to add another distro to tinker with, or you want to switch.

I used Mandrake (an earlier version of Mandriva) when I first started. I liked it, it installed a lot easier than Red Hat. Eventually I found a reason to change, which I did, but I had a reason - no one told me to.

I started out using KDE and I liked it. I switched to Gnome for a specific reason - to learn if I would like it or not, and I was planning to install Linux for other users who knew nothing about computers. I found that KDE is more configurable but I have been happily using Gnome for a couple of years now.

Use Mandriva, learn a bit more, and ignore what jerks like myself and others tell you is good or bad about "their" distro. Mandriva is popular, it is a good distro. Use your head, not your ears.

Mandriva is a very good distro. I actually use Pc Linux Os (creative name isn't it?) which is based on Mandriva. I use it because of its small size, KDE (I too hate GNOME), and because it offers a user experience very similar to windows. You should be happy with your choice, but if you aren't, look into KUbuntu or OpenSUSE.

Kubuntu. Because its KDE (I hate Gnome) and based on UBUNTU which has excellent hardware recognition, lots of packages available, and an excellent support community.

I also like Puppy but thats not what Id use as a primary OS, its just handy in case of emergencies because its small and fast.

[edit] because kde gives you more option. Personally i think Gnome is a dumbed-down desktop. There's no objectve criteria though. Its a personal choice. They're both regarded as excellent desktops. I just dont like Gnome s'all.

I really dont like opensuse. Heres why: I used it for several months as my primary os. I had a whole bunch of hassles setting up a wireless card with it. (Kubuntu recognised it out of the box). I had a lot of hassles with broken packages (software just refusing to work because the package manager had decided there was an issue with the install) and on my machine the boot times were incredibly slow (x2 4000, 2gb, 7200rpm!)

I had none of these hassles with Kubuntu.
