Future College student wondering about Officer Training School and Air Force Special Forces?

I am going to attend Texas A&M and major in Aerospace engineering. Im not going to do ROTC, but want to go to OTS after college. First, I was medically disqualified for the Air Force Academy because of asthma. Would this still disqualify 4 years later for ots. Also, can an officer be a PJ?

Cập nhật:

Hey, Jakko, what about the combat people, Im not sure what they're called, but they go with Army and call in Air Strikes, also, are there no officers that are pj. Are they just people who started out enlisted and were promoted?

Thanks for the help.

Yes, asthma can still disqualify you four years later. The Air Force is very picky on who they choose to allow in the service. One of the major issues is what you want to do in the Air Force after OTS, do you want to fly? or be grounded? You will be disqualified from flying due to asthma and you may or may not get a waiver for a grounded job. Pararescue, or PJ, is an Enlisted AFSC.

Actually to be a PJ you have to enlist rather than be an officer.

Ya i know what your talking about Combat Controllers i'm pretty sure there all enlisted too.

There is one though a Combat Rescue officer is part of the U.S. Air Force Special Tactics and they are similar to PJ's and Combat Controllers heres the link.

There is a waiver available for asthma. Whether you medically qualify for OTS will depend on whether you can pass the methacholine challenge test required for the dodmerb asthma waiver when applying for OTS. If you are going to be in the Corps of Cadets at A&M, I suggest joining AFROTC, or at least taking Aerospace Science courses. Maybe you will physically be at the point where you can pass the methacholine challenge test in two years when applying for the AFROTC Professional Officer's course.

    Good Luck!

Asthma after 12 is a Permanant DQ per mepcom.... Army is only branch giving waivers and as of today no medical waivers being given to fisical year 2010 ( oct 1 2009) because the economy is bas, and recruiting is at 150% acroos the board

yes. however, you must first be branch qualified. I suggest you go ahead and finish strong in OCS, attend your officer basic course for your choosen branch, while there request a Ranger school slot. After you graduate from "John Wayne High" you can request an SF branch transfer. By the time, you finish all this training and get a chance to apply, you will or should be a 1st LT or perhaps a CPT. Not an easy or fast track to choose, but it can be quite rewarding. Good luck.
