Why do the Texans underachieve on D?

One reason is because of their DTs. They get outmanned up front which allows the opposing offense to run the ball all over them. They have a good pass rush, but they must be able to stop the run. Their secondary isnt that good either. Dunta Robinson makes plays, but the safties fell victim to several long TD passes last year. Maybe they will look to find a playmaking safety in free agency or next years draft.

Thier offense, believe it or not, also has something to do with the Texans struggles. Although they were ranked 3rd in the NFL in yards, they were only ranked 17th in scoring. If you cant score, you dont win games. The Texans constantly settled for field goals when the offense stalled inside the 20.

The Texans will need an all around improvement to make the playoffs. Theyre definitely on the right track with drafting LB Brian Cushing in the draft, & if they can find more help on D & solve thier scoring problem on offense, they'll be in playoff contention.

I do not think they underachieve, they just need some more pieces. The D-Line is solid, Ryans is one of the best in the league and will have some help from rookie Bryan Cushing. Maybe they can get a safety in next years draft or through free agency.

The reason they did not make the playoffs was because they are in a tough division. The Colts are always good and the Titans and Jaguars are no pushovers either. If they were in any other division, they could have had a lot better chance at the playoffs.

The offense has to give them a break. The biggest reason is the defensive coordinator, a good one would do more with that team and its talented defense.

The DTs didn't play well and besides Ryans, the other LBs didn't play well. Teams ran all over them last year. If Travis Johnson and Okoye can help control the line of scrimmage, their defense should be better.

Maybe the offense isn't on the field long enough to give the Defense a rest.

they need a few good defensive backs but other than that i think theyll have their first winning season next year. i say 9-7 if not better.
