Which pitches cause the most swing and misses?

In other words, what pitches are the best strikeout pitches?

Depends completely on the hitter and on the pitcher, basically everything in baseball is subjective, especially hitting. If a pitcher has a really effective sinker then that might be his strikeout pitch. If he throws like 100 mph then a change up might be his strike out pitch. The pitch I'd say most people have the most with on a lower level of play is a curve ball mainly because they are inexperienced with them. At a higher level of play, either a sinker or a change up.

I absolutely do not get Mo's comment on Strasburg. You pitch with what got you there and NEVER change it or you will definitely find your career over. I'm not calling you out, don't get me wrong but I can name you plenty of guys that were still bringing it at the end of their career. Conditioning and a mechanics. I also have over three decades of experience Professionally and Coaching Division 1.

As far as the best strikeout pitch, Pitchers chart pitches the day before to see hitter's strengths and weaknesses. Each situation will call for a different pitch. A high fastball is the most common followed by an effective off-speed with both pitches being out of the strike zone.

Definitely the high heat on the inside corner, a Barry Zito 12-6 curve ball. In my experience those are the toughest. Also, with Strasburg, he's gonna be short lived throwing that fast. It's not going to be effective for too long when you throw upwards of 98-100 mph at his age, his arm is gonna go fast on him.

Better to pitch for location and pitch more years, than throw hard and knock your arm out. He's already showing signs with his forearm problem. Not good. He's an awesome pitcher don't get me wrong, but take your fastballs down to 95-96 and go 7 full more consistently. This is just my 3 decades of baseball knowledge. Thought I'd mention it.

If a glass throws a pitch and that's swung on and ignored for a 0.33 strike and the catcher does not catch it, the batter could run to first. If the catcher isn't able to tag him or he beats the throw to 1st base, he's termed secure, however the play remains a referred to as a strikeout even with the batter reaching base thoroughly. If a glass strikes out 3 different batters for 3 outs, than he could get 4 strikeouts in an inning.

Definatly the fastball. A well-placed fastball is harder to hit than a nasty curveball. Example: Stephen Strasburg generates most of his K's with his 97-100 mph fastball, rather than his curveball and changeup. Why fastball: it is the most common pitch thrown in all of baseball and for many pitchers, it is the pitch that they have best control over.

Try swinging at a Mariano Rivera cutter inside at the hands.

mind boggling. Unreal. Disgusting. Yankees closer. The one and only.

It depends on the hitter. For a rookie hitter it can mean as easy as a fastball, for older hitters a curveball or change up would be the best.

It's only from my memory, however, I would lean primarily that is the fastball.

Randy Johnson or Clemens did not get the majority of K's on breaking stuff.
