Are cockroaches indestructible?

I just moved to Hawaii and there are small cockroaches everywhere. I opened the microwave today to make a hot pocket and there was a little mofaka in there!! So, i threw in a cup of water to create steam and turned it on for 4 minutes. After that, i opened it and he was still running around. So, i closed the door and turned it on for 10. I figured the heat/steam would kill him within 4 minutes.

Why is he so strong?

Am i going to have a giant radioactive roach in my kitchen in the morning, sipping on tea, trying to stuff me in the microwave? =)

Cập nhật:

FYI - additional 3 minutes killed him

Cập nhật 2:

I wasn't expecting radiation to kill it. I thought the microwave speeding up the molecules inside its body and their collision wouldn't allow him to last long. I was expecting the shell to burst

    NO,they aren't.

    That's ridiculous & absurd.

Cockroaches are not indestructible, but they can be tough to kill.

I am sure they can survive a nuclear war, since they eat about almost anything as long as it is organic. Though they cannot survive nuclear blast (percussive/heat wave). Cockroaches are more radiation resistant than humans.

The general rule of thumb is the simpler the organism the more radiation resistant it is. So, a mammals would be one of the least resistant organisms, because it has many different tissues required for it function and the cells have more complex metabolic processes. Whereas single cell organisms would be the most radiation resistant (some bacteria in live in the water that cools nuclear reactor)s, because it is a single cell it is not doing anything fancy so most of it metabolism is for the cells survival.

I am curious how much water and fat tissue a cockroach has as its the microwaves that vibrate the water and certain fat molecules that create the heat. My initial guess is not as much as vertebrates and thus it takes more microwave energy to cook them. Granted you generated your own steam... cockroaches have very durable exoskeletons.

Perhaps you should do a detailed study on cockroachs in a microwave.

The critter was probably hanging out around the edges. That is a dead zone from the microwaves. It did not die until it walked into a hot zone of microwaves.

Silly little boy. Roaches can survive nuclear war.

No, you can squish them. That's the most effective way to kill them. But they don't really react much to radiation, so they'll outlive us all.

LOL. It's funny isn't it? If we had a nuclear war roaches would survive but if you step on them, they're dead.

they are very sensitive to ammonia... fill a spray bottle and blast away... Windex works great but is a bit pricey
