If everything is in God's will, then why should I pray if His own "will" prevails?

What if you died on a car accident, or kill yourself, and still people say "It's God's will." So, is killing yourself God's will?

My friends and I had this conversation before, and I told them this:

"What we do depends on our choice and it also reflects the consequences." But some things are meant to be and it depends on God's will...right? Or am I making a fool out of myself?

Likewise said, Ora et Labora (Prayer and Work)

Just enlighten me with your answers.

    Ambsss,

Your question raises the issue or possibility of predetermined destiny. If destiny is already determined, why ask for God's help, etc. Many people say that God controls the major events in ones life, yet we still have a hand in the small stuff, choices of food, travel, etc.

Destiny does exist, but it's really more an issue of cause and effect. When you plant tomato seeds, it is destiny that a tomato plant will appear. It is destiny that if you leap out of a flying airplane, you'll die. So I believe God's will is tied to cause and effect. If you fail to wear a seat belt and crash and die, that was God's will. God gives man control over his own destiny, I believe. We have the power of choice in practically everything we do. Asking for God's help in your life doesn't contradict God's affect on life. Life is precious and as humans, we're given the latitude to enjoy our lives, to make choices, to love others, choose work, play, travel, etc. The power of prayer enhances our lives, gives us comfort, solitude and a close personal relationship with the Lord.

All of this is of course IMHO.

Prayer has the same chance to work as any other gambling method. Praying to a god works the same as you would expect results if there were no god. Think about all the people who die in and after natural disasters (presumably caused by god or his creation) and how many of those people pray to their god to be spared. Then this god rolls his holy dice and spares a few and destroys the rest. We then call the survival of the remaining few a 'miracle'. .... riiiight.

God's will only prevails if you allow it to. Hence killing yourself is not God's will. Dying in an accident could be His will, or because a person chose to ignore it.
