How long do your small appliances last? How long until you buy new ones?

coffee maker, toaster, rice cooker, mixer, blender.

And consider if it is light use, moderate use or heavy use in your household.

Do you replace them after they wear out, or when a better one comes along, or remodelling, etc?

Cập nhật:

Coffee makers is one example. I work in a small office and the coffee maker gets very heavy use there. They wear out fast, maybe 2 or 3 years. I use mine at home very lightly and it's 20 years old. I got a pod one as a gift about 5 years ago too. The people who bought it for me had one for themselves just before they bough mine and they replaced it awhile back. Heavy use.

We've found that many household appliances are more durable than most people expect - if kept clean and well-maintained, coffee makers, blenders, mixers, and more can survive for many years. Of course, the better quality appliances you own, the more likely they'll endure daily wear and tear. Making an investment out front can be a good way to save money, if you know where to shop. Light use, since I live alone. The last microwave and toaster oven were 23 years old, more or less, when they were retired. Replaced the microwave because it was losing power though still worked. Replaced toaster oven because door wouldn't stay closed though the rest was working fine. Could have fixed it if I could have figured out where to get the part. The last cheap toaster lasted about a year. That has been replaced with a very spendy Dualit which I expect to last longer than I will. I broke my last blender jar by trying to powder parmesan cheese. I have not replaced the blender and don't plan to. Hardly ever used it. Mini food processer seems to do what I need. Bought a hand mixer 6 years ago after about 20 years without one. Still working, use it about 3 times a year. Don't have a coffeemaker. I usually have tea, water boiled in a cordless kettle 5 years old, and use a Melitta filter when I want coffee. Melitta cones keep working unless you step on them and don't need to be plugged in. No rice cooker. No crock pot. I only replace things when the current one stops working adequately.

Only when they wear out or fail, generally they last for at least 5 years if the item is of reasonable quality to start with. We've got a mixer though that is at least 20 years old and still going strong. Kettles, which get used at least 10 times a day or more tend to fail first ours go after about 2-3 years. What the fluff is a rice cooker! we use a saucepan with boiling water - works every time and never ever fails.

I have a 6 year old Tiger rice cooker that is moderately used for 6 years. I don't replace rice cookers until they break. My Magic Bullet blender was replaced twice for breaking after heavy use.
