Can I make money off of youtube?

I realize that a lot of people who upload videos of song lyrics get millions of views. I'm quite good at editing and I think i would attract a lot of viewers if I started making lyric videos. If I have a lot of subscribers and views, can I make money?

You make about $1 per every thousand views. You need a minimum of $100 in order for Google to deposit the money in your bank account. That is about 100,000 views you need in order to make any money.

Also, you don't own that song, so you can't make money off of something that isn't yours. What if you made this really cool song, and I take it and sell it and make money? You wouldn't like, would you? You'll probably get copyright strikes on your account, and after x amount, YouTube will close your account.

The people who upload videos of song lyrics can't monetize those videos. You'll notice that the majority have no ads.

You cannot monetize a video based on property that you don't own (aka, the songs being used)
