Can I pay deposit for a property and only start paying rent when I move in 3 months later?
Hi, I'm looking for a place to live from the beginning of September onwards. However, I'm going back to my country from June to mid-September. My current contract ends on 27/8, before I even come back.
So, if I find a place I want to rent. Can I just pay the deposit to secure the property now, not paying rent for June, July and August as I will not live in there, and only start paying rent from September onwards?
Please help because I don't know how things work over here as in my country, I was told that it is possible to do so.
Thanks in advance.

It is unlikely that a landlord would agree to keep a property vacant (and earning no money) for 3 months.
If you wanted to store your belongings there too then there is no way.
If you are a student then many student landlords let from June to June but charge half rent for the period June to September. This varies from City to City but you may be lucky.

Are you serious? A Landlord rents a property out to bring in an income. No Landlord is going to hold a property rent free for 3 months whether there is a deposit in place or not.

Highly unlikely unless the housing market is oversatuated with empty rentals. It is generally the other way around.. especially in student areas.
Given two equal applicants, the landlord is ALWAYS going to take the one who can start paying now, otherwise the landlord has to eat three months of lost rent and THAT is not going to go over too well.
sorry.. (but then again maybe you will get lucky.. - check out the Bates Motel.. it always has a few rooms empty - grin)

It's up to the landlord. But odds are they won't be into it. They could just as easily get somebody to pay the deposit and start paying rent immediately.
If you wanna hold off actually moving that's fine but you'll need to pay.

no it is not possible to do so. If you secure an agreement then the agent expects you to pay every month reguardless of if you are there as you wish to have the property

Go to a complex where they have several units available. They might be open to this.
