can't remember the name of a movie?

Question

Its an older movie from around the late 80's to the early 90's.There this high school girl and she writes on her school's paper and the teacher in charge gives some guy a better piece or something.The girl knows shes better and to prove it pretends to be a guy so she can write a story about it and enter some contest or something.Then it goes all typical story where she falls for a guy who thinks shes a guy and is friends with her/him.there's a prom and a happy ending.Someone please help? its driving me crazy because I should be able to remember this. I'm so going to hit my self in the head when I find the name of it.

thank you Inquizetif that is it.I was like 100% positive that it had guy in the title but thought it was "a guy thing" which is a whole other movie.
