Minecraft redstone machine ideas?

So I played minecraft today and finally defeated the Ender Dragon. So, what do I logically do next? Start over again in a new world, of course!
But this time, I want tons more automated stuff. Enter redstone!
I have some ideas, one of which I've done before, and the others I have no idea how to go about making. They are:
- Cobblestone generator (did before)
- Cactus farmer (with ability to replant)
- Mob smasher (with glass to see them)
- Pressure plate-activated entrance?
I would like to hook all these up to one single pressure plate I stand on. The cactus farmer plan bugs me because I have to replant. I'd keep the bottom one, but then it could take away the cactus I just farmed...And in create mode, I couldn't make something that would actually smash the mobs...
If anyone has other ideas for machines and/or ideas on how to make the above four things, please give me an answer! Remember, i installed no mods.
ALSO: I would like to know if it is possible to do local multiplayer between two (cracked) copies of Minecraft, or if we would have to hop on a server.

Use red stone, pistons, cobblestone (or any block would work, just choose witch ever looks the nicest to you)
Use your imagination, and generate a Sliding door, it get´s kinda frustrating after a while without using any kind of tutorial, but after you get the hang of it and manage to actually do it, it looks awesome.
You can use either a pressure plate, a switch or a button to activate it, but i would recommend using a button since it looks cooler :D
Just place some pistons with some ¨ insert any kind of block you would like to use here¨
Put the pistons and blocks in a way that you think it looks right, so that when you activate the door they open in a cool way. when your done, use repeaters and Red Stone, to wire you sliding door!
I know it doesn't have all of the things you wanted to have in the machine, but it´s worth it and adds a really cool touch to an entrance to any place
Remember that your imagination comes unlimited when you play minecraft!
