Windows media player has not worked in over a year?

About a year and a half ago windows media player stopped working on my computer. I have tried just about everything I can find and think of and nothing has worked.I have defraged my computer ,scaned the file with spybot and malware.You can not uninstall it but you can turn windows features on and off which I have done multiple times. I can not update it because you need to open windows media player.You can not install older versions.I can not even find out what version I have because it will not open at all.I can not do a Repair Install or Clean reinstall because I do not have a Windows 7 installation disc.Does anyone know anything else I could try to get it working?
